Good but not great movie. The 442nd certainly needed to be honored in film. I tire of the stereotype of the WWII US soldier who goes nuts over a pretty woman and goes awol over her. Ironic considering Van Johnson in real life was Gay.

It's a shame that this movie is never shown on TCM. When TCM or any other channel starts showing war movies this will not be part of their schedule. TCM had a Van Johnson day and this one should have been on their list.

So,so many actors that I would love to see as Sherlock Holmes starting with Raymod Massey. I can't remember his name but a British actor potrayed Holmes in a Father Dowling mystery. His portrayal was so good as when he was happily moved to see all the modern achievements and when he tried to drive a car. I felt sad when he tempted Dowling t go back with him and failed. What a new series that would have been in the hands of talented writers. Thank you very much for posting this film.

harry bartell again played father rojas in the 60's remake of this episode, too. the remake was 'the christmas story.' ralph moody also reprised his role as mr. flavin as did herb vigran as the desk clerk. at least one of the singers looks like the same actor, here it's the guy on the right, in the episode airing in 1967 he would be the middle singer. also reprising their role is the baby Jesus. well, okay, maybe it's not the same prop just touched up for color t.v., but it sure looks like it came out of the same mold if it wasn't! mary and joseph look like the same figures, also just repainted.
